An unknown team is reportedly planning to poach Stephen Curry away from the Bay Area if the Golden State Warriors star point guard's chemistry with new teammate Kevin Durant becomes "poisonous."
Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report claimed in a video posted on the site's official Facebook page that a contender could be attempting to lure Curry away from the Warriors if his on-court relationship with Durant won't gel next season.
Bucher, who also talked about the rumor in Colin Cowherd's radio show The Herd, said that the unknown team sees Durant taking the last-minute shots, and would pitch Curry to "come to us and you can be the man once more."
It is no secret that anybody on the Warriors' roster could take last minute shots whether it be Curry, Durant, Klay Thompson, or even players like Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston, who contribute well coming off the bench. For a team that has very selfless players, it would hardly matter who gets the final go as long as it wins them games and as long as their chemistry translates into another championship.
Moreover, the Warriors have effectively epitomized team basketball in the past few seasons and their "Strength in Numbers" vision almost helped them win back-to-back titles.
Following the Warriors' face to face meeting when they were recruiting Durant, Marc J Spears of The Undefeated noted how Durant was sold to the Warriors' motto of "Strength in Numbers." Spears claimed that Curry himself admitted he would care less about who becomes the face of the franchise if it means winning another title for Golden State.
"According to a person who saw the text messages, Curry told Durant in a text message that he could care less about who is the face of the franchise, who gets the most recognition or who sells the most shoes (Curry is with Under Armor, Durant with Nike)," Spears wrote.
"The two-time NBA MVP also told Durant that if Durant won the MVP award again he would be in the front row of the press conference clapping for him. In closing, Curry's message to Durant was that all he truly cared about was winning championships and he'd like to do that as his teammate."
While Durant's decision to join the Warriors is mainly for the purpose of winning a championship ring, the four-time scoring champion seems to have also considered the culture and chemistry of Curry and the rest of the gang.
"A lot of people talk about how tight they are, and how much they enjoy each other ... but to see them together - you could tell that it was true," Durant said, reports USA Today.
"I asked them, 'How is it? How is it there? How is the culture? How do guys work? How is film session? How is being on the plane? That stuff, stuff that you don't really see that goes into the product you put on the court."
Curry is entering the final year of his four-year $44 million contract with the Warriors, making him an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2017. Considering Curry's big role in helping the Warriors transform into legit title contenders, many believe the two-time NBA MVP would remain playing for Golden State.
There is so much to speculate at this point, with NBA fans yet to see how Durant would affect Curry and the Warriors next season. But all signs point to Curry and Durant playing well together and extending their brand of basketball to the "Splash Fam."
