Novak Djokovic bagged his 30th career ATP 1000 Masters crown after finishing off Kei Nishikori 6-3 7-5 in just 82 minutes. It also marks Djokovic's fourth Rogers Cup crown and 9th straight win over the Japanese since 2014 US Open.
Djokovic, who vowed out in the third round of the Wimbledon Open, dominated Nishikori from start to finish, converting 85 percent of his first serves in the first set and 75 percent in the second set.
The world's no.1 gave Nishikori a handful of problems all night, rending the Japanese incapable of returning shots from the baseline.
"Apart from that, Japanese player had no chances on return, and that put a lot of pressure on him while serving, knowing that he must be at absolute best to stay in touch with Novak and force at least a tie break.
Kei wasn't capable of doing that today, having been outplayed from the baseline, especially in the first set when he looked powerless and without any idea how to break Novak's superb defense," via Tennis News USA.
With the victory, Djokovic added another ATP 1000 Masters crown and the 66th title of his career, trailing Rafael Nadal by three. The Serb also entered the Olympic games with a 33-1 record on the hard court, making him the hands down favorite in Rio.
Speaking of Olympics, Djokovic once again imply his willingness to participate in this year's biggest sporting event despite the decision of several athletes to withdraw due to the threat of Zika Virus.
"I don't need to explain that every athlete dreams of being a part of the Olympic Games," Djokovic told reporters. "I'm competing in singles and doubles. "Hopefully I'll get at least one medal."
