Following installation of the Pokémon GO update deployed by Niantic, numerous players voiced out complaints of account resets and deletions. Collected pocket monsters, money earned, items purchased and game levels achieved have all been lost and erased, reports said. But according to the game creator, it was some sort of a minor bug and there's an easy fix.
The game update, per the report from Slash Gear, "causes some users to inadvertently create a new Pokémon GO account by unintentionally signing in with a different Google account." As a result, players found everything on the game app all wiped out or back to zero. It's unsurprising as logging in to a new account will mean starting afresh.
Thankfully, Niantic assures that all created Pokémon GO accounts data prior to the game update are intact. "There've been no reports of accounts actually, truly being reset, as Niantic has had no reset of account servers taking place," Slash Gear said.
And the game makers shared the easy steps to get back to the state of the game before the patch was applied. For iPhone and iPad users, the guide provided by Niantic follows:
- Log out first from the game account or better, uninstall the Pokémon GO app then reinstall.
- After the installation, sign in but make sure to opt for the Google login route. The iOS device will then open the Safari browser and then users can complete the whole procedure.
- Then review the login details to check that the same email address used prior to the update is now logged in.
- To finish off, press the Allow button, which will pull up the Pokémon GO app and from then on everything will be restored. Slash Gear reminded that in some cases, signing out will need to be repeated just to ensure that users have been logged out from the new account.
For Android users, the fix is a bit easier:
- Uninstalling the app was also recommended for a fresh beginning then fire up the app to re-log in.
- When signing in, pick the Google login and tap the account used before the GO update was sent out. Then it's good to go.
As Niantic has indicated, there is no need to panic when things seem to indicate of zero progress following the game update. However, the reports that most Pokémon GO cheats and hacks no longer work when the update is applied are all true, including the prospect of permanent ban when caught using cheating - like the use of third-party app for GPS spoofing.
