Rumors are rife about the upcoming Google Nexus 2016 smartphones dubbed Sailfish and Marlin. Reports suggest that Google has collaborated with HTC to develop the upcoming smartphones rumored to run on Android N and Snapdragon 820.
It is reported that the Sailfish will be the smaller variant, boasting a 5-inch display, according to GSM Arena. The smartphone will have a resolution of 1920 by 1080. Furthermore, the Sailfish is expected to ship with a quad core CPU clocked at 2.1 GHz, in addition to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC.
With regard to the Marlin, it is believed that the smartphone will have a larger display of 5.5 inches at a resolution of 2560 by 1440, according to Android Police. Apart from the Marlin shipping with a quad core CPU and Qualcomm 820 chipset, the phone will have a USB Type-C port, 4 GB of RAM, Bluetooth, and a 3450mAh battery.
The two Google Nexus 2016 models will apparently feature two cameras, much like most current smartphones. The devices will sport a 12MP main camera located at the rear and an 8MP front camera for selfies. Similarly, the two variants will have AMOLED displays.
When it comes to the operating system for the Sailfish and Marlin, reports suggest that the recently unveiled Android Nougat is poised to run on the two smartphones. While Google's latest OS is yet to be officially released, it is believed that the operating system will come out in time for the two Google Nexus smartphones.
Based on the leaked images, the HTC M1 (Marlin) and S1 (Sailfish) handsets will come in black and dark gray aluminum casing. The design has a two-tone look attributed to a glossy plastic or glass cutout on its back, which is said to function as a window for an NFC reader and other radios.
The back of the upcoming smartphones has a gentle curve around the edges. This will make it comfortable for users to hold the devices. Three holes can be spotted next to the main camera, which are believed to be for autofocus and secondary sensor.
