"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 is expected to tackle an important issue regarding domestic abuse and violence in its upcoming episodes.
In season 12, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) revealed that she's a victim of domestic violence when she was still in a relationship with her ex-husband.
No wonder, whenever Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) would ask for her hand in marriage, she would always refuse it.
In the finale, Jo had a drunken conversation with Andrew (Giacomo Giannioti) and told him that she was previously married to someone else.
Jo also shared that Alex doesn't have any knowledge about her horrible past.
While speaking with TV Line, "Grey's Anatomy" cast member Caterina Scorsone opened up about Jo and Alex's storyline and said that it will take up the most part of season 13.
"It got messy for them, but that's going to become a really multi-layered story that has social and personal overtones... It's a real opportunity to explore some important issues," she said.
Meanwhile, Scorsone also talked about her character Amelia and her marriage to Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd).
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Scorsone said that she's confident her real-life pregnancy won't be written into the show this season.
"I don't think so. I think they don't want to burn through all that story, but I also think that last time they wrote my pregnancy in, and I think Shonda Rhimes is going to give me a break on this one," she said.
Scorsone added that Amelia and Owen's storyline will focus more on how the two characters intend to learn what it's like to be married to each other.
"The rapidity with which they got married is going to be a piece of their story. It took that level of spontaneity to get them down the aisle. If they had waited any longer, the nerves would have won. But now they have to figure out how to be married. That's a big question for anybody, let alone two people who are deeply wounded. A lot of their story this year will be negotiating this whole different dynamic, sharing a life and being vulnerable when you're terrified of all that stuff," she said.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
