The "Divergent" finale skipping theaters and shifting into a TV movie surely shocked fans and actors alike. Since the news hit the headlines, there have been speculations that lead stars Theo James and Shailene Woodley are not joining the cast for the "Divergent" TV movie.
Woodley, who played the dsytopian future teen rebel Tris, had expressed her shock when she was approached about her knowledge of "Divergent" TV movie in the Comic-Con in July. She revealed that she has no idea about it and it is all news to her.
Ansel Elgort, who portrayed Caleb Prior, shared the same sentiments with her co-stars and hinted that they all may not join the new TV project. Elgort felt sad about the news just like the rest of the cast who were left unaware of the fate of the "Divergent" finale.
"It's obviously sad because the cast all really liked each other, but hopefully we can all work together on a different project," Elgort Huffington Post. "I love Shailene and I love Theo and everyone else in the cast. I'll miss [pause] we didn't say our goodbyes because we were expecting to do another one together."
In an interview with Variety during the premiere of new comedy "War Dogs," Miles Teller knew only about Lionsgate plan of converting the film adaptation of Veronica Roth into a "Divergent" TV movie some minutes ahead of his interview. Like his other cast members, he said that he is not sure if he will be participating in the new project.
Only Theo James, who is known for his role as Tobias Eaton, has not commented on the issue. However, it is speculated that he shares the same feelings as his co-stars. The news of turning the popular movie into a TV project broke after it was reported that the third installment "Divergent Series: Allegiant" failed at the box office with only $66 million revenue.
As of this late, Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs only revealed that they are looking into the possibility of spreading the "Divergent" TV movie across 10 to 13 episodes and then continuing from there. He also confirmed that Lionsgate will start negotiating with 12 networks that may pick up the TV series.
Lionsgate has not revealed the casting for the TV project, or whether the main cast will still remain. It has not contacted anyone of the cast yet, who are waiting for the outcome since all of them are still in contract with the studio.
