Argentina (1-1-0, 3 points) and Honduras (1-1-0, 3 points) face each other in a must-win Group D encounter at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasília this Wednesday, August 10 in the final round of group stage competitions in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics men's football tournament.
Both Argentina and Honduras split their first two games in the tourney and so they are currently tied at the second spot with three points each in the group table. Whoever wins this match will advance in the quarterfinals together with Portugal, who remained undefeated after two rounds.
The Albicelestes bounced back from their 0-2 loss to the Portuguese during the teams' Olympic-opener by nipping CAF U-23 Championship runners-up Algeria, 2-1, at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange in Rio de Janeiro last Sunday, via NBC Olympics.
After a goalless first half, Atletico Madrid striker Angel Correa broke the deadlock two minutes after the restart to give the lead to head coach Julio Olarticoechea's side.
Algeria midfielder Sofiane Bendebka then equalized the game at the 64th by scoring his second goal of the tournament.
However, São Paulo forward Jonathan Calleri netted the winner just six minutes later with a leaping header inside the penalty area to give the three points and a chance to advance in the quarters to Argentina.
Meanwhile, Honduras fell to mighty Portugal, 1-2, in their second round match also in Rio on Sunday after their opening round 3-2 win over Algeria in the previous matchday, SB Nation reported.
Striker Alberth Elis scored the opener right at the first minutes, but it was all head coach Jorge Luis Pinto's squad could produce before the Selecção turned on their defense and began pressuring the ball with their attacks.
Two first half goals from the Portuguese earned them back the lead as the game went scoreless from then on.
With Portugal advancing to the knockout stages and Algeria eliminated with two losses and 0 points so far, this match between Argentina and Honduras is a do-or-die game for the two teams. In case of a draw, a tiebreaker will be applied to determine who will advance in the next round.
The predicted result is a 2-1 victory for Argentina.
