"Criminal Minds" star and seasonal director Thomas Gibson has aired his side and felt sorry for what he did after he was suspended from the CBS crime drama. His character as Aaron Hotchner was written out and his production was cancelled in the meantime.
The altercation reportedly started while Gibson was directing and starring in one of the upcoming episodes of "Criminal Minds." Sources revealed that he kicked the writer-producer all of a sudden. The producer reached his agent, who reported the incident to the network.
"There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement," Gibson told TMZ. "I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and always will."
In his defense, Gibson said that he only kicked the producer after the latter showed him an aggressive behavior. There are no details released on his suspension, but it looks like that he will not be seen in the upcoming two episodes of "Criminal Minds."
Gibson will not be able to film for episodes 3 and 4 after his suspension from the long-running CBS procedural. Aside from acting, his directorial stint for Season 12 was also cancelled. Gibson already helmed six episodes of the ABC Studios/CBS TV Studios-produced show.
As of this time, Gibson's status with the show is uncertain. The Human Resource Department is evaluating his future status on "Criminal Minds," Deadline reported. There is a possibility that Gibson will be banned from returning if things will not be amended.
It is not the first incident that Gibson hit someone on the show. Some years back, he shoved assistant director Ian Woolf. That time, he was forced to attend an anger management seminar while he stayed on the crime drama.
CBS handled a similar incident in 2013 when CSI co-star George Eads had a dispute with a writer on the set. Eads was not allowed to join the series for a couple of episodes.
No comment has been heard from the writer-producer who was involved in the argument with Gibson. "Criminal Minds" Season 12 will return on Sept. 28.
