Some good news for "Descendants of the Sun" fans are on its way. Latest reports claimed that the hit-drama's lead stars Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo will attend the 11th Seoul International Drama Awards.
The on-screen couple, who played Captain Yoo Si Jin and Dr. Kang Mo-Yeon in the blockbuster drama, will attend the gala event on Sept. 8 at the Yeouido KBS Hall, Asia Times reported. It is said that "Descendants of the Sun" was nominated for the Hallyu Drama Award due to its monstrous popularity across Asia.
The 16-episode drama was unfathomably popular with the final episode recording a 38.8 percent viewership rating across the nation. Aside from its cast members experiencing an enormous growth in their popularity, "Descendants of the Sun" has also strengthened the Hallyu wave in Asian countries.
Although Joong-Ki and Hye-Kyo have not confirmed their attendance yet, many fans are hoping to see the on-screen couple at the upcoming gala event. The Seoul International Drama Awards, also known as SDA, is an annual award show for excellence in television drama production based in Seoul, South Korea.
Meanwhile, in a sit-down interview with Korea's ViuTV, as cited by Couch Kimchi, the "Innocent Man" actor expressed how grateful he was working with the actress. He said, "Everyone thinks it is because of her outward appearance that she became famous."
"But after working together, I realized her inner heart and personality are also good," Joong-Ki added. "Moreover, she has lots of experience and I actually did learn a lot from her."
In response, the "Full House" actress commented that Song Joong-Ki played his role so attractively that it even made her heart flutter. She added that Joong-Ki's dynamic portrayal of Army Captain Yoo Si Jin had led to the unforeseen hot response from the viewers.
