Days after Wang Baoqiang announced that he was going to file for divorce from wife Ma Rong after learning of her extramarital affair, rumors are swirling that the Chinese actor does not have enough funds to afford legal fees.
Baoqiang, 32, took to his official Weibo account on Sunday (Aug. 14) to reveal that he was divorcing Rong and firing his agent/manager Song Zhe after he found out that they were having a sexual affair.
The "Kung Fu Jungle" actor now needs to pay RMB 240,000 in legal fees to go ahead with the divorce filing but is unable to cough up the amount despite owning properties worth millions, and is being helped out by his own legal counsel to raise money for the case, according to CRI News.
A source, believed to be a bank employee, revealed that when Baoqiang went to the bank to withdraw money, he found that all of his bank accounts had been emptied out and his finances transferred to other accounts, sparking speculation that his Rong was behind it as she was the authorized signatory of the accounts.
There are other reports that claim that nine of Wang's properties had been registered under Ma's parents' names and his company assets were transferred to his estranged wife's lover Song Zhe, whom he sacked for having an affair with Rong, according to Yahoo News.
In addition to his assets being transferred, Wang's company seal, financial seal as well as the seal of legal representative were also reported missing from his office.
Wang and Ma's divorce scandal has drawn a lot of attention not only in China but also on an international level. The couple tied the knot in 2009 and have a son and a daughter together.
