New K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has topped Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. Their debut songs "Boombayah" and "Whistle" from their first album "Square One" has placed no. 1 and 2, respectively.

According to a report by Billboard, both songs have sold around 6,000 downloads each with "Boombayah" selling slightly more than "Whistle".

The group dropped these two songs first prior to the release of their album "Square One".

BLACKPINK has become the first K-pop act to top the World Digital Songs chart. Billboard has even recognized the group as the seventh K-pop artist to place no. 1 on World Digital Songs. Other big names in the list include Psy with four no. 1s on the chart, BIGBANG with three, and 2NE1, EXO, CL, BTS, G-Dragon and Taeyang with one.

The rookie group has continuously made waves since their debut last Aug. 8. BLACKPINK is now considered the fastest K-pop act to hit no. 1 on the Billboard chart and the third to keep top two positions after fellow YG Entertainment artists PSY and BIGBANG.

An article by Soompi has described the group as a "force to be reckoned with". As of Aug. 16, BLACKPINK has topped major live music charts in South Korea - BugS, Genie, MelON, Mnet.com, Monkey3, Olleh Music and Naver Music. The group's debut singles have also been included in the top 10 of iTunes singles charts in Brunei, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand and Vietnam.

BLACKPINK's recent achievements did not go unnoticed.

According to an article posted on YG United, the group's debut is considered a success.

Labelled as "monster rookie" by their agency YG Entertainment, the group has officially become a phenomenon bearing in mind the staggering numbers of views and downloads.

The members, who trained as long as six years, are living by their nickname "monster rookie". The group has repeatedly set new high records among YG rookies.

For YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK's power and appeal have made them "more exceptional and unprecedented than any other YG rookies".

BLACKPINK, YG's new girl group in seven years, is composed of members Jisoo and Rose are in-charge of the vocals, while Jennie and Lisa do most of the rapping.
