While everyone is amazed at how the Oculus Rift works, Ubisoft has made the Nosulus Rift which is kind of a parody for the VR device and a marketing stunt for the South Park game.
Nosulus Rift is designed for the nose, hence the name. It can still be considered a virtual reality device considering that it emulates the smell of farts in the South Park: The Fractured But Whole video game.
The new South Park video game gives players the power to fart for combat, movement or simply just for laughs. Ubisoft has made the Nosulus Rift VR device to emulate the fart smell of South Park: The Fractured But Whole whenever the player farts in the game, Polygon has learned.
Each press of the fart button releases the smell on the Nosulus Rift, which looks like a gas mask at first glance. It does exist and it was developed by the Productman ad agency as part of the marketing efforts for the new South Park game.
Ubisoft said that the Nosulus Rift will only be available for players to try it out during ongoing conventions as it will not be sold with the game when it launches, The Verge reported. The device was first unveiled at the Gamescom 2016 event where South Park: The Fractured But Whole video game was also shown.
Smells of the Nosulus Rift was made in cooperation with the famous Isabelle Ferrand, a French perfume specialist. Unfortunately, there seems to be no other smells except for the farts in the game.
The concept does smell intriguing as it takes virtual reality to the next level. Who knows, there could be updated VR devices in the following years where the mask will also cover the nose as well as the player is immersed more in both vision and smell.
Ubisoft's Nosulus Rift is a marketing stunt for the South park: The Fractured But Whole video game to be launched on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 6. Interested players can still smell the farting device during the Gamescom event until August 21 and during the PAX West convention in September.
