Jeremy Lin signed a $36 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets and he is looking to repay them big time. According to the latest rumors, Lin is working on his jump shot the entire summer as he tries to improve his overall game.
In a post on his official website, the 27-year-old point guard revealed to his millions of fans that his priority in the offseason is to improve his shooting. He noted that he is already good attacking the rim but he wants to be more consistent shooting from long range.
"So this summer, my number 1 priority by far is my jump shot. Working on all types of jump shots: catch-and-shoot 3's, off-the-dribble 3's, mid-range jumpers, iso jumpers," Lin wrote.
Lin added that he also changed his shooting mechanics from his form, release and shooting motion. The possible result is a smoother shot that he is hoping to be consistent and will not take much energy. He also mentioned that he has a quicker release.
The Harvard product also started working on floaters and change of pace since he will not be relying on his sped and athleticism as he becomes older. He has been working out in his hometown of California with two shooting coaches this summer.
The new Nets point guard still works with his long-time personal coach, Doc Scheppler, and former Brooklyn shooting coach, David Nurse. According to Mike Mazzeo of ESPN, Lin really needs to improve his jump shot since he only made 34.8 percent of it in the last four seasons.
In six years in the NBA, Lin has been known as a slasher rather than a jump shooter. There are times that he can catch fire and make it look easy but he has struggled with his shot throughout his career. Despite all of that, he is still a solid player.
Lin played tremendously last season with the Charlotte Hornets that earned him the three-year, $36 million deal with the Nets. The Brooklyn fans were very supportive of his signing but the front office looks at it as a business move.
Nevertheless, Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson knows what to do with Lin since he is one of the people responsible for "Linsanity" in 2012. Nets fans are certainly hoping that Lin will recapture that magic and introduce the era of "Brook-Lin."
