Finn Balor became the first-ever WWE Universal Champion in history after defeating Seth Rollins at SummerSlam but he suffered an injury during the match. The latest rumors suggest some of the possible plans for the championship and provide an update on Balor's shoulder injury.
According to WWE.com, Balor was diagnosed with a torn labrum and he will undergo surgery to repair it. The recovery for that kind of shoulder injury typically ranges from four to six months, leaving the Universal Champion no choice but to relinquish the title.
The injury reportedly happened after Rollins hit The Demon with a running powerbomb into a barricade. Dr. Chris Robinson, who is WWE's ringside physician, told WWE.com in an interview that Balor dislocated his shoulder after the move.
"He hit the wall during the match, dislocated his shoulder and was able to put it back in himself in a split second," Dr. Robinson said.
It is very sad news for Balor and many of his fans since he just made his main roster debut last month. He then made history but an injury forced him to relinquish the WWE Universal Title. It should be noted that Balor is the third superstar that got injured while wrestling Rollins following John Cena (broken nose) and Sting (spinal injury).
On the other hand, the new WWE Universal champion will be determined in a Fatal 4-Way next week on Monday Night Raw. Rollins, Kevin Owens, Big Cass and Roman Reigns earned their ticket to the match by winning their singles matches on Monday.
Rollins defeated Sami Zayn using the pedigree while Owens used a new finishing maneuver to get the win against Neville. Big Cass earned a huge count out win over Unite States champion Rusev, who left the match due to his rib injury.
Finally, Reigns finished Chris Jericho with a spear in the main event to earn the final spot in the Fatal 4-Way Match. According to Cageside Seats, the current plan for next week is Reigns becoming the second-ever WWE Universal Champion.
However, it should be noted that the WWE tends to change their plans all the time depending on many factors. But with Reigns getting back his swagger and slot in the main event, it will not be a surprise if he ended up being The Guy at the top again.
