The flagship phone from Google, Project Ara has gone through many layers of testing and as per the latest update, the functionality of the phone will be limited.
According to the official site, the latest breakthrough during the development of Google Project Ara came, when they came up with a solution for the phone which will have some fixed base components like CPU, memory, antenna, GPU, battery and screen and keep the components like processor, amount of RAM, camera module, speakers and device battery changeable.
Google wanted to come up with a revolutionary phone where the users can choose the features themselves and can assemble the phone without many difficulties. The team led by co-founder Ara Knaian has done significant progress after the initial hiccups and the gadget lovers can expect to be impressed by the end results of the phone once it is launched.
The phone is named after the co-founder Knaian who is the mechanical designer and the main driving force behind this concept. The platform of this phone is based on the basic open-source model. The hardware configuration can be designed by the user. For e.g. a sports fan can install his or her favorite logo on the smartphone without much hassles and this phone will have capabilities like testing the purity of water etc.
Gamers can convert this smartphone into a gaming console and use it as per their desire and discard all the other features which they do not need. This customizable phone is expected to give the user the freedom to choose what they want in their respective phones, and discard the rest.
The customer version of this phone is expected to be released in 2017. The prototype of the phone was showcased recently. The developer editions are now available and the shipping will start sometime later this year. This phone is meant to give solutions to the users who do not want to spend a lot on a smart phone and assemble it bit-by-bit.
According to Cnet, this will be a Lego-like phone, and will bring in a revolution in the world of smart phones. The users can assemble the phone like a zigsaw puzzle.
