Fresh reports indicate that Nexus line will be axed and replaced by the new Google Pixel series. Google is rumored to announce Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones on Oct. 4.
Rumors have consistently stated HTC is building Marlin and Sailfish smartphones. However, new information states that these devices will not be sold as Nexus products but they will be launched as Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, Android Police reported.
Speculations have it these devices will be marketed as first smartphones manufactured by Google even though previous rumors have stated that HTC is marking both the phones. However, like the Google Pixel C, Google will be mainly responsible for the industrial design of Pixel and Pixel XL and the Taiwanese company is nothing but a manufacturing partner.
It is still not confirmed that Nexus lineup is dead. There is no successor coming for Nexus Player. The Google Pixel C is the latest tablet from the company. None of the recent products from Google bears Nexus moniker. Hence, the future seems bleak for the Nexus branding.
