One of the last victims of hackers is “Ghostbuster” star Leslie Jones whose nude photos were leaked in late August.
Another hacking was reported by BBC on Tuesday involving the personal information of almost 800,000 registered users of porn site Brazzers. However, beyond being exposed that they access porn, what is worrying about the hack – actually done in 2013 but only exposed now – is members of the site discussed favorite scenes and performers.
If the stolen logins are used, it could expose the private conversations of members about sexual preferences. As a forum, it has members discussing their fantasies, said Troy Hunt, a security researcher.
The breach, according to Brazzers, occurred through the vBulletin software the website managers used to keep the forum running, CNET reported. Hunt said the software was often poorly maintained by forum administrators who did not apply the latest security patches. It left the website vulnerable to attack, pointed out Hunt who added other recent hacks were traced to vBulletin.
Another weakness of the site is that members who signed up for the chat forums used the same logins and passwords on the main porn site. The stolen data were email addresses, user names and passwords spelled out in plain text which is another failure of the site managers since many websites often digitally scramble or encrypt passwords as added protection.
Brazzers said it has put in place measures to prevent fraudsters from re-using login names found in the stolen list.
Vigilante.pw, which tracks breaches, passed the Brazzers users’ information leak to Motherboard, a news website.
