General Motors Corporation, owner of the Cadillac brand, recalled nearly 67000 ATS sedans worldwide, ABC News has reported. The recall affects cars from model years 2013 to 2015. Most of these cars were sold in the US and Canadian markets.
The recall related to a problem with the car's roof panel system. The roof panel of the sedan is supposed to work automatically when the "slide" or "tilt" switches are pressed. On a pressing of these switches the whole of the roof panel opens. The problem apparently is that the switches are activated a bit too easily. By possibly even just a touch rather than a firm push of the switch.
GM's statement, as reported by automobile website Edmunds was the following: "The power-operated roof panel systems on these vehicles will auto-close when the non-recessed portion of the 'slide' or 'tilt' switches are pressed and the roof panel is open, Because these switches are not fully recessed, they can be actuated with less force than required to comply with applicable federal standards".
GM also said that it had not received any customer complaints, or reports of crashes, injuries or fatalities that could be related to the issue for which the car is being recalled. Those car owners of this particular model in scope for the recall will receive an official recall notice from GM. They will then to contact their dealer to fix the problem.
GM also said that it had sent repair kits to all dealers to repair this fault before the dealers deliver new Cadillac ATS cars to customers. Dealers will remove the older switch trim plate and install a new one to repair the cars.
