Amidst Lionsgate's plan to release the "Divergent Finale" project as a TV movie with a potential spinoff series, actress Shailene Woodley expressed her decision not to follow the franchise based on Veronica Roth's novels to the small screen. She made it clear that she signed for a movie project and not a TV movie so he will not be interested in any offer to do it on TV.
It was not the first time for Woodley to react and show her disappointment about the network's plan to finish the "Divergent Finale" on the television. When she first heard the news during the summer, she was left with no words as she was not aware of the drastic change happening with the franchise.
"From what I know, they want to proceed with a television show, which is not something that I signed up to do," Woodley told E! News while promoting her latest movie "Snowden." "Out of respect to the whole scenario, there could be things that have changed, but I didn't sign up to do a TV show."
As of this moment, Woodley, Theo James and the rest of the cast are still floating on air. Up to this time, Lionsgate has remained mum about "Divergent Finale" skipping the theaters. Woodley's co-star Miles Teller shared the same sentiments with Woodley. Like her, he is upset if ever the news about wrapping the finale will happen on the television.
In July, "The Divergent Series: Ascendant" TV movie rumors came out following the last movie release. Lionsgate decided to change the franchise's finale into a TV project after its last chapter "Allegiant" slumped in the box office with earnings of only $66 million domestically. The first two installments were a success, according to Variety.
In Woodley's latest interview with "The Today Show," she cleared it once again that she did not sign up to do the "Divergent Finale" on a television show. She thinks she and the rest of the cast is in a limbo right now. She clarified that she is always interested and happy to portray the role of Tris, but given it will be released in theaters.
The "Divergent" final installment is slated to premiere in June 2017. Plans to start its production during the summer were put on hold after the studio contemplated on bringing "Ascendant" to the big screens. The studio is reportedly planning to the TV movie followed by a TV series where they will be introducing new characters.
