Actor Adam Driver dished out juicy details about the highly-anticipated "Star Wars Episode VIII," which he likened to a previous installment of the sci-fi movie franchise.
Driver spoke about the script of "Star Wars Episode 8" and how it feels playing Kylo Ren. He revealed that the eighth movie is somewhat similar to "The Empire Strikes Back."
"It's similar to how The Empire Strikes Back has a different tone. For that people always go "oooh, it's dark" but I don't know that it necessarily is," Driver told Collider. He added that director Rian Johnson trusts that his audience is "ready for nuance and ambiguity" and that he's not "dumbing anything down."
"The Empire Strikes Back," the second movie released in the "Star Wars" saga, is regarded by many fans and critics as the best "Star Wars" movie of all time. As a matter of fact, "The Empire Strikes Back" ranked third in Empire magazine's list of 500 greatest movies of all time. This comparison adds a lot of excitement for "Star Wars Episode 8," a follow up to 2015's big hit "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
The 32-year-old actor went on to reveal that the "stakes are even higher" with respect to the production for "Star Wars Episode 8," his second movie as Kylo Ren. He also shared that he "learned a lot of things" about his character through Johnson's writing.
Meanwhile, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit theaters before "Episode 8." According to actor Riz Ahmed, the spin-off film is "edgier" than previous "Star Wars" movie. "The film is about complex characters and loyalties and murky pasts," Ahmed told The Wrap. "The film is a little edgier, with people making these huge compromises. History isn't always clear."
"Rogue One" is set before the events in the "Star Wars" saga, wherein it focuses on a group of outlaws who attempt to steal the plans to the Death Star. The movie stars Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker and Donnie Yen, to name a few. "Rogue One" will premiere on Dec. 1, 2016.
"Star Wars Episode 8" is expected to premiere in cinemas on Dec. 15, 2017.
