NVIDIA could be launching the highly anticipated GeForce GTX 1050 in October as the company still strives to alleviate the supply problem with their Pascal video cards.
AMD has won over the mainstream GPU market with their Polaris cards mainly the RX 480 and the RX 470. However, NVIDIA soon released the GTX 1060 which aims to take on the 480 which has been selling like hotcakes for budget gamers.
The GTX 1060 3GB model was speculated to be the GTX 1050 possibly to take on the RX 470 but fans were disappointed when it was released. Now, rumors claim of another Pascal card with a lower spec configuration called the GTX 1050.
NVIDIA is expected to officially launch the GTX 1050 between October 24 and October 28, iTech Post has learned. There is no solid basis for the speculations but the launch window between the GTX 1080 and the other Pascal cards seem to have a pattern.
Taking on the Radeon RX 470, the GTX 1050 will have less than a thousand CUDA cores and possibly just a 75W TDP rating. It is unclear whether there will be another variant that will compete with the cheaper Radeon RX 460 which only costs $99.
Fans are expecting the NVIDIA GTX 1050 to cost less than the $180 RX 470 GPU from AMD, Christian Today reported. In NVIDIA's history, they rarely go below the price of AMD cards but it does not mean that it is not possible.
Leaks have stated that the new Pascal GP107 card will come in 2GB and 4GB variants. There are also rumors that the 2GB variant will also have less powerful specs compared to the 4GB variant as what NVIDIA has done with the GTX 1060 3GB model.
The GTX 1050 2GB model could then be the contender against RX 460 but with a presumably higher price tag at around $120 to $130 considering that the 3GB model would at least cost $150 if the speculations are correct. PC gamers will have to wait until the end of October to find out whether the GTX 1050 release date speculations are indeed true.
