Avid fans have been clamoring for the release of George R.R. Martin's sixth novel in "A Song of Ice and Fire." While the author is yet to unveil the exact release date for "The Winds of Winter," he had something interesting just after the Emmy Awards.
HBO's series based on Martin's novels, "Game of Thrones," has claimed victory for the second time in a row in the Outstanding Drama Series category. Backstage during the Emmy Awards night, the reputable author of "A Song of Ice and Fire" teased about the future of the hit franchise.
In an interview with Deadline, Martin said, "I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more."
Although this is great news for fans since Martin is hinting at a possible prequel, the author immediately clarified that now they still have the show to complete and he has two books to finish, and therefore, that is all speculation. As a result, fans who would not want to see the end of "Game of Thrones" should be excited by the news that there will be a prequel.
However, some aficionados are still concerned about "The Winds of Winter" as opposed to the news about a possible prequel for "Game of Thrones" and "A Song of Ice and Fire." All they need is for Martin to deliver the highly anticipated sixth installment in the series.
While there is still no information about the exact release date of "The Winds of Winter," a recent post on Martin's official blog indicated that he is back home after the Emmy Awards and "there's more work to do." Fans have previously criticized Martin, accusing him of focusing on attending events as opposed to putting more time into his writing so he can finally release "TWOW."
The renowned writer is seemingly not bothered by the slamming and is taking his time to finish the novel. For now, readers can hope that the much-awaited installment will finally hit the shelves sometime early next year. Here is a sneak peek for more information on "The Winds of Winter":
