A growing number of Chinese are having nude photo shoots at sites considered historical or sacred such as a Tibetan lakeside which scandalized netizens when the photographer posted the images of a naked woman on social media.
Another sited desecrated by two nude men was in the ancient Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, reported South China Morning Post. An investigation was initiated by officials after the photos of the two men surrounded by onlookers were posted by a blogger from Dali, Yunnan Province, on his WeChat account on Thursday.
One of the naked men was being fed a banana by a woman, although a clothing item covered his private parts. In another photo, both men were tied to a tree and people were throwing eggs at them.
A blogger said the naked pair of a groom and his best man celebrating his upcoming wedding. An official who probed the incident said the photos were taken in Jinchiniao Square near the entrance to the temple, a tourist destination.
The temple is an ensemble of three independent pagoda towers arranged on the corners of an equilateral triangle built during the Kingdom of Nanzhao and Kingdom of Dali in the 9th and 10th centuries. It is a landmark of Dali City and considered a national treasure that China preserves.
What the two did, according to Chinese law, could land them in jail for 10 days. In May, a pair of lovers was jailed by the local police for posing naked in Dali and posting the lewd images online. They were charged with spreading obscene information online.
