"Divergent" star Shailene Woodley has been released from the Morton County Jail in North Dakota after 24 hours of detention. The Hollywood actress was taken into custody for trespassing on Oct.10, Monday, while she covered the protest live in the North Dakota construction site.

 Woodley was one of the 27 arrested for protesting over the construction of the oil pipeline that crosses four states. Upon her release, she expressed her gratitude to her fans who have been supporting her and her fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline construction.

"She appreciates the outpouring of support," Woodley's publicist told E! News, adding not only for her, but more importantly, for the continued fight against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline."

In her Facebook live coverage, Woodley was about to return to her vehicle when the authorities grabbed and arrested her. She detailed that the men, who captured her were armed with huge guns and batons and she would be taken because she is well known. The footage has since garnered 3.2 million views.

"I'm being arrested. I was down there with everybody else. I don't know what's going on? As soon as they came I left... it's because I'm well known. It's because I have 40,000 people watching."


Nearly 200 people gathered at the site to display their objection to the building of the pipeline. Woodley, the rest of environmentalists believe that it would damage the land as the plan involved covering Illinois, Iowa, and North and South Dakota. Local tribes protested because they know that the construction would harm the historical sites in the area.

The "Snowden" actress is one of the protesters who contradict the plan to use the land covering 1,168 miles. On the other hand, Energy Transport Partners, the one responsible for the project insists that it will boost commercialism and is a better way of transporting oil compared with road or trail, BBC reported. However, transporting of up to 570,000 barrels of crude oil daily poses a huge risk to the waterways.

After Woodley's arrest has gone viral, her "The Fault in Our Stars" co-star Ansel Elgort came to defend her. He has expressed his admiration to Woodley and encouraged his Twitter followers to support Woodley. "The Fault in Our Stars" writer John Green also expressed his support and admiration over Woodley's determined and passionate activisim.
