A scene in YoonA and Ji Chang Wook's bodyguard drama "The K2" recently became a controversial topic given its excessive content. The South Korean censorship board issued a warning to the tvN drama's showrunners following the release of a shower room fight sequence that featured nearly naked actors.
"The K2" episode 4 showed several memorable scenes, one of which involved the tvN drama's protagonist Je Ha fighting several men in a communal shower room. Portrayed by Ji, the former mercenary soldier turned bodyguard was forced to defend himself when his resentful co-workers decided to teach him a lesson.
Aired on Oct. 1, Saturday, the said scene displayed the character's fighting abilities that consisted of mixed martial arts moves. It also showed Ji and his fellow cast members' naked bodies with only their pelvic areas blurred out.
The censorship board Korean Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) considered the more than two-minute shower room fight scene too suggestive given the tvN drama's primetime broadcast schedule. YoonA and Ji's bodyguard drama's 8:00 pm KST timeslot is within the family drama broadcast time period.
"The K2" received a "recommendation" from the said agency to remove similar scenes in future episodes. The censorship board's warning, acquired by Korean news outlet OSEN, highlighted the tvN drama's violation of Article 27 Section 5 of the Broadcasting Deliberation Regulation that covers "maintenance of dignity" in TV programs.
In other news, YoonA and Ji's bodyguard drama has been enjoying strong TV ratings since it aired its first episode in September. A scene in episode 5 posted peak ratings of 7.6 percent, according to Nielsen Korea, as cited by Korea Herald. Meanwhile, the episode's average viewership share reached 6.8 percent.
Released on Oct. 7, Friday, the said episode featured a scene where the Girls Generation singer showed her dancing moves while cooking ramen. YoonA's co-star Ji also displayed his cute side that included a happy dance and a few ecstatic jump moves.
