Mainz had struggled to earn victories in the new term as the team has been winless in four of their first six matches so far. The club is currently in the middle of the 20-team German top flight table, at the 11th spot, after six rounds of competitions.
Head coach Martin Schmidt's side is on a two-game winless spell with their most recent match ending in a goalless draw with struggling perennial contenders Wolfsburg on the road at the Volkswagen Arena on Oct. 2, as per Vavel.
It was the first clean sheet of the season for Mainz's Danish shot-stopper Jonas Lossl as the defense held their own but the offense did not do their part.
Prior to the game, Die Nullfünfer dropped a disappointing 2-3 decision to Bayern Munich which snapped a two-game winning run.
Meanwhile, Darmstadt was also held to a 2-2 draw by fellow reeling team Werder Bremen at their home ground of Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor on Oct. 1, the league's official website reported.
Croatian striker Antonio Colak provided the opening goal for the hosts with a spot kick in the 19th minute following a foul on Jerome Gondorf by Bremen defender Theodor Gebre Selassie inside the penalty area.
Die Werderaner scored the next two goals to take the lead with strikes from defender Lamine Sane and winger Serge Gnabry in the 51st and 67th minutes.
However, Die Lilien was able to find the equalizer in the 73rd minute with Colak's second goal of the match with Gondorf providing the assist.
It was the fourth straight winless game for Darmstadt as they fell to the 14th spot of the league table, only two points above the bottom three relegation area.
