"American Horror Story" is about to reveal this season's biggest plot twist on next Wednesday's episode, titled "Chapter 6."
Co-creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Season 6's Roanoke is actually divided into a two-part act, with the sixth episode set to unlock the beginning of the next chapter. When viewers last tuned in, the storyline of newly-weds Shelby and Matt has wrapped up, spurring speculations online that the couple has been lying about their strange encounters inside the haunted house this whole time.
"You'll see starting in episode 6, the show has a huge turn and the thing that you think you're watching, is not what you're watching," Murphy told the publication.
Added co-creator Brad Falchuk: "No matter what you think it is, it's not that...Episode 5 ends and you're like, 'What happened?' Then episode 6 comes and you're like, 'Wait, what happened?'"
In light of this development, the showrunners' statements concurred with the most recent uploaded promo for next Wednesday's installment. The 30-second footage sees "My Roanoke Nightmare" producer (Cheyenne Jackson) being filmed and followed by a camera crew, ordering them not to stop shooting no matter what.
FX has opted not to release any more teasers or plot details about Chapter 6, an indication that the producers might actually have something big to show-off next week. In the past seasons, American Horror Story has always been known in setting the bar higher when it comes to bold storylines. Now that another heavy plot twist is underway, viewers have yet to tune-in to find out if the anthology series can once again exceed their expectations.
"American Horror Story" stars Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lily Rabe, Denis O'Hare, Andre Holland, and Angela Bassett. Season 6 airs every Wednesday at 10PM on FX.
