A hearing for Chinese actor Wang Baoqiang's divorce case against wife Ma Rong has been scheduled on Oct. 18, Tuesday. The actor filed for divorce from his wife of seven years in August.
Baoqiang took social media by storm after he announced via his official Weibo account on Aug. 14 that he was divorcing Rong and relieving his agent/manager Song Zhe of his duties after finding out that they were having an affair. He also alleged that Rong and Zhe transferred most of his assets, including property worth millions, to their names and "hurt his family members."
The 32-year-old actor is likely to submit evidence of Rong's extramarital relationship with Zhe in court, including text messages they exchanged with each other. Baoqiang is now demanding full custody of their two children, a son and daughter, and is seeking child support from Rong until they turn 18, according to CRI News.
In addition, Baoqiang's lawyer, Zhang Qihuai, is also seeking monetary damages for the emotional distress Rong has put his client through. The "Lost in Thailand" actor has also asked for a split of the couple's remaining possessions, including nine apartments, stocks and other investments, a BMW car, jewelry, watches, handbags, clothing, financial products and insurance.
Qihuai said his client will be present in court for the hearings, whereas Rong has submitted an application for the case to be held behind closed doors in private and has asked not to attend the trial in person.
Rong has also filed a lawsuit against her estranged husband in a Beijing court. In the complaint, she alleged that Wang's public announcement on his social media account was libel and is demanding an apology from the actor. This case will be heard on the same day.
Baoqiang recently made his first public appearance since the divorce drama as he showed up to promote his upcoming film "Buddies in India" in Beijing. The actor also addressed spoke to the media about his marriage at the event.
"It was a big blow for me," China.org quoted the actor as saying. "But when I think of my parents and my two children, I know that I have to lift my spirits and walk out of the shadows."
The actor further noted that in spite of being cheated by two of his closest people, he still has faith in kindness and goodness. For him, there are many good guys out there and everything will turn out fine.
