In Los Angeles, an altercation between police officers and a homeless man ended in the brutal killing of the latter. The LAPD chief defended his men by saying that the man was gunned down because he was trying to grad one of the officer's gun.
A video showed that the man was reaching out for the officer's waistband where the gun was holstered. Thorough investigation showed that officer's gun was discovered to be partly cocked and jammed with a round of live ammunition in the gun chamber, which according to the police could indicate that there was a struggle, according to The New Zealand Herald.
Police chief Charlie Beck said in a public statement, "You can hear the young officer who was primarily engaged in the confrontation saying that 'He has my gun. He has my gun.'" Beck added that his officers repeatedly said it with conviction.
After the struggle, three of the responding police officers opened fire killing the man in the process.
There is however a different angle into the story. An amateur video of the incident was posted on several video-sharing sites on the Internet. After investigating the video, it appears that the words "Drop the gun!" were shouted several times before the gunshot was heard. Whoever said it is still indistinguishable.
One of the witnesses of the incident was Anthony Blackburn who disagrees with the extreme violence inflicted on the homeless man. He said, "Why didn't they simply shoot the man in the leg?"
The incident happened in the Los Angeles area known only as Skid Row, a neighborhood known for extreme poverty, according to CNN.
