To celebrate the silver anniversary of his Jet Tone Film production company this 2016, famous Chinese filmmaker Wong Kar-wai produced the romantic comedy “See You Tomorrow.”
The movie, inspired by the short story “I Belonged to You” by Zhang Jiajia, is a reunion for actors Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro. It revolves around the stormy romance between a young woman and married artist with an unfaithful wife.
The filmmaker is known for producing star-studded comedies such as “Chinese Odyssey” or “Tian Xia Wu Shang” which he made in 2015.
Leung’s last role was a cop in the action film “Lost in White” where he jumped into an extremely cold river in Heilongjiang. For “See You Tomorrow,” he had to practice a lot of Mandarin Chinese since it is his first movie where Mandarin is the only language he speaks.
Takeshi plays Guan Chun in the new movie due for release on Dec. 23. The director demanded that he portray the leading role as an 18-year-old. “He asked me to behave younger and younger again since my portrayal often makes the character look over 30. There a gap between my portrayal and the original character in the novel. Then I focused on narrowing the gap and making my acting appear less exaggerated. I felt pleasantly satisfied when I discovered the right direction for my acting,” China Entertainment New quoted Takeshi.
The leading lady is Angelbaby who attended with Leung and Takeshi the press conference for the movie on Sunday in Beijing. Jiajia described the upcoming film as a “Wong-style film using a “Stephen Chow approach,” Asiaone reported.
