Will Ospreay is one of the best wrestlers in the world not in the WWE at the moment despite his relatively young age of 23. However, the latest rumors imply that Ospreay might be heading to the WWE very soon.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Ospreay revealed that the WWE has shown interest in him and he thinks about the company at the moment. He also mentioned that performing at a WrestleMania is one of his biggest dreams.
"I'm never going to say that WWE has not been in my mind. For anyone who ever gets into wrestling, WrestleMania is always the dream. Right now, I am over the moon with New Japan and I could stay here for another five years with all the talent coming through," Ospreay said.
"Everyone backstage is a joy to work with, but WWE is on my mind, and they obviously had had interest in me. But right now I just want to learn from the best in the world in Japan," he added.
However, the 23-year-old star is currently signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling as the company tries to create new stars after the departures of A.J. Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson earlier this year to join the WWE.
Ospreay was reportedly recruited by Triple H and the WWE back in June to be part of the Cruiserweight Classic. However, his deal with NJPW prevented him from competing but he could very well be part of the next year's 32-man tournament.
The English star and Ricochet had an amazing display of athleticism back in May in a match in NJPW that got the attention of casual fans, per PWTorch. It was picked by many prominent media outlets but they were also criticized by several wrestling legends.
One of those was Vader, who compared Ospreay and Ricochet's match to a gymnastics routine. It led to a heavily promoted match in August with Vader coming out on top. In the same interview with SI, Ospreay expressed his unhappiness in not going over a legend and an old-timer.
"This is a business, and I do what I'm told to do, but I am unhappy about the way it went about. The original plan was for me to be over, and it changed the night before because he didn't want to do it. I was a little bit disappointed in the fact that a man like Vader, at the age that he is, refused to put over a guy like me," Ospreay said.
Nevertheless, the WWE certainly is keeping their eyes on Ospreay and they are ready to snag him from NJPW at any moment. He could be a big star for NXT once Nakamura, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries get called up to the main roster.
