In a recent interview singer FKA Twigs got honest about her past relationship struggles, going on to reveal that she thinks there's a kind of tenderness to emotional abuse.
Speaking about her 2013 music video for "Papi Pacify," FKA Twigs explained the reason behind the visuals and the story especially with respect to the scene where a man is putting his fingers down her throat.
"In the relationship I couldn't communicate," FKA Twigs told ES Magazine about an abusive ex-boyfriend. "The person I was with was stopping me from explaining how I felt. So the physical manifestation is someone putting their hand in your mouth."
She added, "But there's an element, too, of liking that as well. It's messed up. It's addictive." Furthermore, FKA Twigs elaborated that she considers this concept as both "violent" and "beautiful."
"It's kind of sexy, like emotional abuse can be tender. That's why it's messed up," FKA Twigs said. She explained that emotionally abusive relationships can be tender, that's why some people prefer to stay in it and that a "poorly part of your mind" unconsciously likes it.
FKA Twigs is currently dating "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson. Despite breakup rumors, the couple is still going strong after dating for more than two years. FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson stepped out at the Met Gala 2016 together. They got engaged in 2015.
