Vine is soon going to end after its short reign as one of the most popular video apps as other applications overshadowed its capabilities.
Social media has seen these vines or short videos of funny moments but it has become saturated after several years. There are even videos on YouTube with Vine compilations on a certain year so that a user can view them all in one sitting.
Vines have also made some stars famous on social media because of their quirky videos. However, some of them may have become too famous for their own good.
When Vine user interactions have declined in the past several months, some of the app's biggest stars reportedly approached the company's executives. Marcus Johns and Piques with other Vine stars wanted a huge lump sum from Vine in order for them to continue making original content to save the app, PC Magazine has learned.
Vine Creative Development Lead Karyn Spencer was the one who spoke with the stars, who wanted $1.2 million each for them to make original Vines through the app. Theoretically, it could have saved the app for some time as user interaction would still grow but it would ultimately end in a stalemate once again.
The Vine stars did not get what they want and they did stop making original videos on the app. It could have been one of the reasons why the app is now laying on its deathbed.
Vine original founders are now creating a similar but more powerful video app called the Hype, Mashable reported. The app is already out on iOS but the founders are currently working on developing the app for the Android operating system.
Unlike Vine, Hype is more focused on helping users in live broadcasting their moments. It could be used for celebrities and those who want to act as journalists in their own right.
Hype is more geared towards competing with Periscope which almost has the same functionalities and capabilities. Vine's legacy could possible live on with Hype if it gains enough traction soon as it launches on Android.
