Barcelona striker Luis Suárez grabbed the lead for Uruguay with a goal in the 73rd, but Palmeiras center back Yerry Mina was able to restore parity 11 minutes later to spoil the party for the visitors.
The 22-year-old Mina's header was the defender's first international goal while Suárez's was his 47th for Uruguay as the country's all-time top scorer.
Meanwhile, Chile edged Peru, 2-1, at their home field of Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago also on Oct. 11 to move up to the fifth spot of the table after lounging in the bottom half in the early rounds, Daily Mail Online reported.
Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal netted a brace in the 10th and 85th minutes to lead manager Juan Antonio Pizzi's squad past the Peruvians while winger Edison Flores scored the lone goal for the visitors.
It was a bounce back win for Chile, who dropped a 0-3 game to Ecuador in the previous round.
