A game after ending his 157-game streak with at least one three-pointer, reigning Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry set another record for three-pointers made after drilling 13 treys in the Golden State Warriors' victory over the winless New Orleans Pelicans Monday night.
There was no stopping Curry as he topped his career-best 12 three-pointers after shooting 13-for-17 from long range en route to a season-high 46 points to power the Warriors against the Pelicans, 116-106.
Curry's explosion came after a game when he ended his streak of three-pointers at 157 games after going 0-for-10 in Golden State's 97-117 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.
According to USA Today, Curry said he was being hard on himself the last two days, attempting to get his rhythm back. His outburst was much needed by the Warriors as his teammates went just 3-for-18 from beyond the arc.
In the first half, Curry made six of his eight three-point attempts to help the Warriors gain a 63-49 halftime lead. But the Pelicans came back and took the lead in the third quarter until Curry knocked down three treys to give his team a 84-78 advantage.
The Pelicans tried to clamp their defense on Curry in the final quarter but the Warriors star, who shot 16-for-26 that night, shrugged it off and drained another trio of three-pointers to set the record.
His 13th three-pointer put the Warriors on a comfortable 109-97 lead with 2:23 left in the game, a much needed breather to stave off the hungry Pelicans which has not won a single game in their first six outings.
For Warriors coach Steve Kerr, it was no surprise that Curry waxed hot as he expected the two-time MVP to bounce back from a bad game, per USA Today.
Last Feb. 17, Curry tied the record of three-pointers made by Kobe Bryant in 2003 and Donyell Marshall in 2005. He now has seven games with at least 10 three-pointers in a game.
Klay Thompson made his presence felt with 24 points on a 11-for-22 shooting while Kevin Durant added 22 in eight shots.
Anthony Davis, who has been playing excellent basketball averaging 30.9 points per game, paced the Pelicans with 33 points and 13 rebounds.
