It looks like "Fifty Shades Darker" is not holding back on the steamy sexual content its predecessor took pride in. The sequel, based on E.L. James' "Fifty Shades" novel series, has been given the R rating, dodging the more restrictive NC-17 rating.
As E! News reported, "Fifty Shades Darker," which stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson in leading roles, has been granted an R rating by the MPAA due to "strong erotic sexual content, some graphic nudity and language."
What this means for fans is that there will still be unhinged love making scenes featuring Dornan's Christian Grey and Johnson's Anastasia Steele, a prevalent feature of "Fifty Shades of Grey," which came out in 2015.
There were previous concerns that the second movie might not have the same R rating as the first film because it was reported that Universal Pictures may have ordered less intense sexual scenes for the movie.
The only difference between the first and second films is the lack of "unusual behavior" as a ground for the R rating, a term used as a ground for the R rating in "Fifty Shades of Grey." This is perhaps because S&M has become so common in since 2015 that is no longer considered "unusual."
Meanwhile, Johnson bared much of her body in "Fifty Shades of Grey," while Dornan was more limiting on what he allowed to be seen in the movie. However, female fans will be delighted to know that the actor may go full front in the sophomore outing.
When ET Online dropped the big question in an interview with Dornan, the actor gave a vague answer. "The truth is that I don't know the answer to that. You'll have to wait and see," Dornan teased. Interestingly, Dornan said that he was more comfortable filming "Fifty Shades Darker" than "Fifty Shades of Grey." This probably means that Dornan was also more comfortable showing more of him in the sequel.
Nevertheless, the mystery is enough to have fans' imagination go wild about what to expect in "Fifty Shades Darker."
"Fifty Shades Darker" will premiere in theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
