Lisa Lynn Masters, an actress who made appearances on TV shows like "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and "Gossip Girl," has been found dead in her hotel room in Lima, Peru on Nov. 15, Tuesday. She was 52.
Masters had hanged herself using her skirt. The actress was suffering from depression and police recovered certain anti-depressants from her room, according to local newspaper Peru21.
"As to her husband and family's wishes, we hope that the industry can mourn her death without details," her manager said in a statement to The Wrap. "In these darkening days, we hope those who have had the pleasure of knowing her will see how brightly she shined and will find that light within themselves and continue to share it with others - just as she would have."
Apparently, Masters was in Peru on a modeling contract. Her family and friends have now set up a fundraising page on GoFundMe to help the actress's husband, William Brooks, cover the expenses of her travel and funeral costs and $40,000 of the $50,000 goal has already been achieved.
According to the page, Brooks faces an uphill battle as he works as a healing arts practitioner and his income alone is not enough to pay for the costs that he will have to bear in order to get through this crisis. The raised funds will go towards the transportation of Masters' body from Peru to the United States, the funeral service and a month of lost wages for William.
Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Masters moved to New York to pursue a career in acting after a brief stint as a TV reporter and model. She was also featured in films like "It's Complicated" and "The Stepford Wives" and the TV shows "Ugly Betty," "Nashville" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
