Roman Reigns is set to face Kevin Owens at Roadblock: End of the Line for the WWE Universal Championship. According to the latest rumors, Reigns is set to defeat Owens to become a "double champion" heading into 2017.
As recapped by WWE.com, The Big Dog became the No. 1 contender for the WWE Universal title this past Monday on Raw. He defeated KO in a non-title match and he did it with ease. Owens was without Chris Jericho, who is on the verge of breaking up their friendship.
The night started really great for Owens and Jericho as they were taking shots at Seth Rollins. However, Reigns came out to provoke the champ into giving him a title shot. KO even told Y2J to shut up which led to Owens accepting the challenge by Reigns.
In the main event, KO lost when he got hit by a devastating spear by The Guy. Reigns has more than two weeks to prepare and do it all over again to win his first ever WWE Universal Championship.
According to Cageside Seats, the WWE is planning to have Reigns defeat Owens at Roadblock: End of the Line. The storyline will show Reigns proclaim himself as a "double champion" since he also holds the United States Title.
The report added that the inspiration for this plan is reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. "Notorious" recently became the first ever "double champion" in UFC until he got stripped of the featherweight title this week.
It should be noted that this is not the first time the WWE will have a "double champion" like that. Rollins became won the United States championship against John Cena at SummerSlam 2015 while simultaneously holding the WWE World Heavyweight title.
Reigns becoming a "double champion" will surely get a lot of backlash from fans. The Big Dog has not gotten over with the crowd even though he has been demoted to the upper midcards. He is slowly getting reactions but those came from women and children.
Nevertheless, these are just rumors at the moment and nothing has been confirmed. The WWE tends to change their plans especially if it gets leaked online. Check out the video below to see Reigns beat Owens in a non-title match on Raw to become the No. 1 contender for the WWE Universal title.
