Lee Joon Gi, the male lead star of Korean drama "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," is gaining more popularity. In the recently concluded drama, he played as Prince Wang So of the Goryeo Dynasty who falls in love with a woman from the 21st century.
Lee was named as the most buzzworthy television appearance, per information from analytics firm Good Data Corporation, as cited by Naver TV. His fan event in Seoul was a sold out show, with tickets selling out in just 52 seconds. Fans also urged his agency to host another event so another events were set on Dec. 3, Saturday, and Dec. 4, Sunday, in Seoul.
Prince Wang wears a big scar on his face which he was hiding in the drama, but eventually came out as the story progressed. Despite the scar which could have marred his handsome face, Lee still got a massive female following. He worried about his looks deterring the fans to like him but the TV ratings showed the opposite.
To thank his fans for their support, Lee released a digital single album. The single contains three tracks, "Thank You," "Now" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," All KPop reported.
The 34-year-old actor has already been famous in South Korea and other parts of the world with a solid fanbase. He catapulted into stardom in his role in "King and the Clown" in 2005 which had little expectations upon its release but became the highest grossing film of its time.
Lee starred in films "Fly Daddy Fly," "Virgin Snow" and "May 18," and in TV dramas like "Iljimae," "Time Between Dog and Wolf" and "Arang and the Magistrate." The actor is known as a complete package with his multiple talents. Aside from acting, he can sing and dance, and he recorded songs he used for his fan meetings.
This year started with a huge offering of a Korean drama "Descendants of the Sun" which gained massive following in Asia and other countries of the world. The drama stars Song Joong Ki who starred in "A Werewolf Boy," "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" and "Innocent Man," as well as Song Hye Kyo who appeared in "Autumn in My Heart," "Full House" and "That Winter the Wind Blows." Fans of the drama could not get enough of it that they strongly petitioned for a sequel when it ended, just like what fans demanded for Lee's "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo."
With their dramas sharing the same fate, Lee has been compared with Song's popularity as others claim one of them is more popular than the other. Nevertheless, both actors have proven their worth whose projects gained positive viewer ratings.
