The new tvN drama "Goblin" set an impressive record during its debut week. Gaining a high score on a TV popularity chart, Gong Yoo's drama even bested the KBS hit series "Descendants of the Sun," as well as Lee Min Ho's drama "Legend of the Blue Sea."
"Goblin," also known as "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God," reached a new record on the content power index with its high score. The TV popularity chart identified Gong's tvN drama as its top TV program for the first week of December, according to Nielsen Korea and entertainment company CJ E&M, as cited by Korea Herald.
With a score of 7,449 points, the tvN drama broke previous records posted by other TV drama series. At its peak, "Descendants of the Sun" scored 5,518 points in the said content power index while "Reply 1988" and "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" posted scores of 5,260 and 4,720, respectively.
Released on Dec. 2, "Goblin" even nabbed the top spot from Lee's new fantasy drama series "Legend of the Blue Sea." The said SBS drama previously claimed the said index's first place after airing its premiere episode in mid-November. With a content power score of 4,315 points posted in the first week of December, Lee's drama slid to second place.
Meanwhile, "Goblin" also posted impressive TV ratings during its premiere. The drama's viewership ratings reached an average of 6.9 percent with peak TV ratings of 9.3 percent, according to Nielsen, as cited by Korean news outlet OSEN.
The new tvN series even gained an average viewership share of 4.4 percent in the 20 to 40 years old demographic group, as indicated in the same report. Total TV ratings for the cable network's target audience also registered a peak rating of 5.8 percent.
