From a head porter in a railway company in his latest film “Railroad Tigers,” Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan will play one of the bodyguards of a Mexican politician in his new film.
This is not the first time he portrays a bodyguard. In the 1978 movie “Magnificent Bodyguards,” Jackie Chan was a hired escort who battles his way out of an area in the city run by criminals.
Variety reported that Jackie Chan signed for the Lorenzo di Bonaventura production for Sony, Suretone Pictures and Schur Pictures of “Five Against a Bullet.” Joe Carnahan is the writer of the action movie.
The movie is about a small Mexican town under siege by a drug cartel. Jackie Chan is one of five weary bodyguards hired to protect a Mexican politician whose father was killed by the cartel before the election. The film is based on a script by Alex Litvak which Carnahan started to rewrite in 2014.
Hollywood star Bruce Willis was supposed to be part of the movie, but only Carnahan has remained with the film as writer. Among Carnahan’s film portfolio are “Narc,” “Smokin’ Aces,” “The Grey” and “Stretch.” Di Bonaventura, the producer of “Deepwater Horizon,” is behind the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises.
“Five Against a Bullet” would be the fourth upcoming movie of Jackie Chan. The two others are “Bleeding Steel” and “The Foreigner.” He is the first actor to sign for the movie which Bonaventure has been wanting to make for years.
Carnahan said that “Five Against a Bullet” is the story of cynical men who lost their sense of hope about the world and life. Their bleak outlook is due to going through the cycle of being rekindled and betrayed over and over again. In 2014, when he joined the project, Carnahan thought “Five Against a Bullet” would be his next film. While looking for actors, he was open to having a grizzled man, an aging lead or a young cynic, according to Slashfilm.
