It was made official yesterday that Akira Toriyama's "Dragon Ball Super" will be arriving on western shores next month under the wing of Adult Swim's Toonami slot.
The high-powered anime series is set to air its first season on January 7 next year on the aforementioned network snagging the 8 p.m. and 11.:30 p.m. ET schedule. Moreover, Polygon stated that the first season will feature both "Battle of the Gods" and "Resurrection 'F'" sagas that were first introduced as animated featurettes before Toei Animation decided to make a series out it.
For the uninitiated, the first season consists of 26 episodes that featured most of the anime's well-known characters including new key characters such as the god of destruction, Lord Beerus and his mentor, Whis.
Toei Animation's Masayuki Endo expressed his delight to be working once again with Adult Swim in bringing the series back to the U.S. for its western fans, Comic Book reports. The same thing goes with Adult Swim's Jason DeMarco as he felt likewise with the long-running anime series.
Meanwhile, Dragon Ball Super in Japan just recently wrapped up the "Future Trunks" story arc and is now heading towards another one. Episode 70 dubbed "Champa's Challenge! This Time We Face Off in Baseball" will be like the calm before the storm as the succeeding episodes of the series will be making a sharp turn moving forward. If the leaks are something to chew on, Episode 71 might feature the demise of Son Goku through the hands of the assassin known as Hit. That being said, those who were already given the heads up about this are now contemplating as to who issued the death warrant to the legendary Saiyan in which many believe that it's Lord Champa who did such deed.
