Makoto Shinkai may not be expecting that his novel turned animated film - "Your Name," would end up this big among anime fans and movie buffs alike. Since it came out almost four months ago in Japan, it went on to become one of the highest-grossing Japanese animated featurettes to date not to mention that it's now making quite a buzz in other territories, especially in China.
Prior to hitting the silver screens in the mainland, the movie has been the hot topic among Chinese anime loving folks that it even became the top trending topic in China's counterpart for Twitter dubbed as Weibo. The animated film was so renowned among Chinese that it even toppled Warner Bros.' big-budgeted prequel to the "Harry Potter" lore entitled "Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them" bagging $41 million during its run. Moreover, the film was favored by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association to bag this year's Best Animation making "Your Name" a possible contender for an Academy Award distinction, CNBC quoted.
Per The Wrap, Shinkai was in a panel organized by the publication Monday talking about "Your Name's" success and his future plans about the film. The writer-director stressed, though, that he felt uneasy in front of a crowd. He also pointed out that he tends on focusing more on such genre in his future projects as he went on explaining that the anticipation of meeting different walks of people enthralls him.
TheWrap's Steve Pond highlighted the same genre used by some Hollywood films. Shinkai then responded that albeit the similarity of the theme used, the inclusion of several plot twists in the film may well seem to deviate it from its western counterparts. The director further explained that his penchant working in a speedy manner makes him in sync with the fans and even wished that making movies could be done at a faster rate as well.
