BTS and TWICE recently proved their selling power in the latest Gaon Album Chart. Earlier this week, the Korea Music Content Association (KMCIA) released their official rankings for streaming and album sales for this year.
TWICE unsurprisingly topped Gaon's digital music chart with their title track "Cheer Up," while BTS' "Wings" topped the physical album chart, according to KMCIA, as cited by The Kpop Herald. The results are based on sales accumulated from January to November.
GFriend's "Rough" and M.C. The Max's "No Matter Where" came in second and third place on the digital music charts, which thoroughly reflects the number of plays and downloads. "Descendants of the Sun's" OST's, titled "This Love" and "You are my Everything," landed the fourth and fifth spot, respectively.
With respect to the physical album chart, EXO's third studio album "Ex'Act" managed to secure the second spot, followed by BTS' previous album "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Young Forever" and EXO-CBX's "Hey Mama!" The fifth place was the Chinese version of "Ex'Act."
"The sales amount of the Chinese and Korean versions of 'Ex'Act' adds up to more than 800,000," an official from KMCIA said. "But, since the index only counts individual albums, BTS' 'Wings,' which sold over 710,000, won first place."
This comes weeks after BTS said in an interview with Yonhap News Agency that they are amazed by the lyrics-come-true moments they are experiencing these days. Leader Rap Monster, 22, said they sang "The Most Beautiful Moment of Life" and woke up to experience it.
However, despite their popularity, BTS is still reaching for greater recognition in the global market. Whether it is through music or music video, the seven-member group wants to become people's must-see-in-this-life kind of band.
Rap Monster then admitted that a world tour is one of the strongest ways to make such dream come true. To him, embarking on a world tour is a badge of excellence in music and stage performing. He added, "Someday, I want to travel all around the world and hold concerts in stadiums, just like world pop stars Coldplay, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber."
