Mick Schumacher could be following the footsteps of father Michael Schumacher soon with reports that he may be on the verge of joining the Mercedes junior programme. If true, this could be another breakthrough for he 17-year-old as he tries to scale up the ladder and into Formula 1.
With the surprise retirement of Nico Rosberg, Mick Schumacher could be in a perfect position to take over. He currently leads the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 championship after four races.
If everything falls into place, such could be the best development in the youngster’s budding racing career. It wasn’t a bed of roses for Mick who started his racing career when he was just nine-years-old.
Mick Schumacher’s potential entry was also suggested due to movements from within the ranks. Esteban Ocon is expected to step up for Force India next year while Pascal Wehrlein will reportedly replace Rosberg, Grandprix.com reported.
Further supporting the rise of Mick Schumacher to Formula 3 competition is Prema Powerteam boss Rene Rosin. A lot of that had to do with the fact that Mick was part of Prema’s F4 team that finished runner-up in both the German and Italian championship, Motorsports.com reported.
“I think he's ready for Formula 3. Of course, that's not my decision, what he will do next year,” Rosin said.
Things do seem to be falling into place for Mick which would have made his father pretty proud. Michael Schumacher continues to be holed up in his Lake Geneva Mansion, hoping for a miraculous recovery since that dreadful 2013 skiing accident.
The actual state of Michael Schumacher has been stagnant at ‘progressing’ as the family continues to fend of media outlets on the real state of the fallen racing legend.
As mentioned in a previous post, Mercedes boss Ross Brawn was the last one to give some form of update. Like most who have been allowed to see Michael Schumacher, he terms Shumi’s fate as progressing, saying as well that most reports coming out are untrue. Also, Brawn has called on fans to respect the privacy of the family during these trying times.
