"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" gained a huge fanbase when it was released in 2015 and even became one of the hit gaming titles for the said year. Despite the launch of the latest installment of the "Call of Duty" franchise namely "Infinite Warfare," the 2015 game retained its popularity with developer Treyarch set to unveil new content in the coming year.
Recently, Treyarch unveiled its plans to release several new DLCs and other gaming enhancements to "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3." In a Facebook live stream event held Dec. 15, the gaming company's head Dan Bunting, accompanied by Jason Blundell, expressed their excitement over the new content that they are planning to deploy in 2017.
Bunting highlighted the game's popularity among avid fans of the "Call of Duty" franchise. Given the number of gamers who remained loyal to the "Black Ops 3" installment, Treyarch will also continue to support the said gaming title, according to the executive.
One of the upcoming content that players can look forward to is the new zombie feature named "Newton's Cookbook," according to Blundell. Declining to reveal details about the said new content, Blundell explained that he cannot divulge any other information at this time.
Meanwhile, four expansion packs were released for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" that introduced several new maps and in-game items. "Awakening" and "Eclipse" were deployed in February and April, while "Descent" and "Salvation" were released in July and September, respectively.
Treyarch previously shared that "Salvation" would be its final DLC for "Black Ops 3." However, the low sales number of "Infinite Warfare" may have pushed the gaming company to revisit its initial plans for "Black Ops 3."
Physical game sales of "Infinite Warfare" for the month November is lower than the numbers posted by "Black Ops 3" during its 2015 launch period. An investors report prepared by Cowen analyst Doug Creutz, as obtained by CNBC, revealed the almost 50 percent decline in "Infinite Warfare" sales as compared to its predecessor.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" was released on Nov. 6, 2015, while "Infinite Warfare" was launched on Nov. 4. Watch the trailer for "Black Ops 3" below:
