There are three love stories in the romantic comedy film “See You Tomorrow” which opens on Dec. 23. The movie is a project of director Zhang Jiajia, adapted from his hit book “I Belonged to You.”
Zhang gained fame in Sina Weibo after he posted in China’s largest social media platform 33 short stories that were based on his personal experiences. The stories got over 400 million views, CRIEnglish reported.
“See You Tomorrow” stars Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro. Tony Leung is Chen Mo and Takeshi Kaneshiro is Guan Chun who help people with relationship problems.
The first love story revolves around Guan Chun and Mao Mao’s first love. The second story features the couple Ma Li and Jiang Jie who had gone through trials such as separations and reconciliations. The third love story about Chen Mo and Mu Zi proves that fairy tales could become true.
In a review of “See You Tomorrow,” Thenewpaper noted that the film has slapstick elements that made use of Chinese characters as jokes. It also has some emotional scenes that moviegoers could relate to.
However, the reviewer observed that midway the movie, the story becomes confusing because of the unnecessary parts thrown into the plot. Nevertheless, the movie was given a rating of 3 because of its veteran cast and the excellent shots made by Zhang with his use of certain hues.
Besides “See You Tomorrow,” five other movies would open on Friday, including “The Railroad Tigers” of Jackie Chan and “Marauders,” a Canadian crime movie. Among these six films, “See You Tomorrow” is expected to do well at the box office because of the director’s following in Weibo, according to Global Times. The last week of December is one of the peak times for China’s film market.
