Apple will have to find ways to improve the battery life of the MacBook Pro 2016 following an advisory from Consumer Reports. Inconsistent battery life was found on multiple versions and the cause for the group not to recommend the controversial Apple notebook.
The Cupertino company was befuddled by the findings, claiming that the findings were inconsistent with what Apple had done on its end. That said, both groups are in collaboration to make ends meet, 9 to 5 Mac reported.
As things stand now, Consumer Reports is sticking to its recommendation which could be a big blow for Apple and its latest MacBook Pro. After a series of testing, there were wide and varying results found on the battery performance of the said notebook.
Among the tests done was one with the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. One model lasted for 19.5 hours while another just 3.75 hours. A non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro model was also tested where one stayed up for 19.5 hours and another just 4.15 hours, CNN reported.
With those results, Consumer Reports made its “non-recommendation” and believed that re-running tests were warranted. The discovery is nothing new considering some early bird buyers were already complaining about the battery life of the MacBook Pro 2016.
The findings go against the claim that the new MacBook Pros can last up to 10 hours. But even before that, controversy was already up with most hitting on the use of Intel Skylake chipsets and the 16 GB RAM limit.
Apple explained that the reason for the limitations in specs was due to their focus on energy-efficiency. With the limited battery life issue coming out, all that was negated.
It should be noted that Apple and Consumer Reports do have a history. That included a swipe at the iPhone 4 and the device’s antenna issues. The late Steve Jobs tried to allude the jab, offering customers a free case.
Be it as it may, it will be interesting how talks would turn out. A new wave of MacBook Pros are said to be coming in 2017, said to be armed with a more powerful Intel Kaby Lake SoC.
