In mid-December, “Descendants of the Sun” actress Song Hye Kyo created noise when she posted on Instagram a photo of herself crying, giving rise to speculation if she was crying over a former boyfriend Hyun Bin or co-star Song Joong-ki.
Until now, almost eight months since “Descendants of the Sun” ended, the status of their relationship remains a big question mark amid fan expectation that being a TV love team, they would also become a real-life couple. However, both stars claim they are just friends.
Fans’ Wish
Postings by fans on the Instagram account of the two regularly include wishes for them to enter into a romantic relationship and be lifetime partners. In fact, that fan-wish was made as early as June when Soompi listed the two as one of six drama couples whom fans wished dated in real life.
The entertainment website believes the SongSong couple should go from reel to real because the chemistry between Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo is evident from the beginning of the 16-episode drama when KBS 2TV and iQiyi aired “Descendants of the Sun” from late February until mid-April. Soompi noted that one proof of the couple’s chemistry is the 35-year-old actress’ acting “made her own heart flutter.”
Top 10 for 2016
Today, the couple remains on top with “Descendants of the Sun” among Google’s Top 10 for 2016, Inquistr reported. Despite the Hallyu ban in China, their endorsements send product sales soaring.
Besides the SongSong couple, Soompi included Ming Dao and Joe Chen of “Prince Turns to Frog,” Ji Chang Wook and Park Min Young of “Healer,” Sam Lin and Pets Tseng of “Moon River,” Lee Jong Suk and Park Shin Hye of “Pinocchio” and Zhang Ruo Yun and Sun Yi of “Fifteen Year of Waiting for Migratory Birds.” Fans of these six reel couples are still expecting they follow the example of Jo Bo Ah and Ohn Joo Won from “Surplus Princess” and Ahn Jae Hyun ad Ku Hye Sun from “Blood” who made a crossover and became real-life couples.
