Previously set for March release, the documentary is now slated for an earlier air date on Jan. 7, Saturday, after the sudden death of the iconic actresses.
"Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher" features the one-of-a-kind relationship of the mother-daughter that was hidden in the world of Hollywood. The mother and daughter duo will be seen as themselves in interviews, film footages, never-been seen photos and vintage movies in the Carrie Fisher- Debbie Reynolds HBO documentary, E! News reported.
"It's a love story," HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins, who worked with Fisher on her HBO special "Wishful Drinking" in 2010 told Variety. "Carrie wanted to make Bright Lights for Debbie and Debbie wanted to make it for Carrie."
Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd also appears in the Carrie Fisher- Debbie Reynolds HBO documentary on one interview. She expressed how delighted she is that the world will be able to see how great performer her grandmother was during her time.
Most of the footage was filmed in 2015. Viewers will be able to see the up's and down's of Fisher and Reynolds in real life and in showbiz. The "Star Wars" star's battle with drug addiction and mental health illness will also be highlighted in the documentary.
The Carrie Fisher- Debbie Reynolds HBO documentary premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2016. It has received critical acclaims at several prominent film festivals, including the Telluride Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.
Fisher had always wished to document her mother's legacy as an entertainer for the younger generation. She reportedly wanted that to honor Reynolds.
The actress, known for her "Star Wars" role as Pricess Leia, died on Dec. 27, Tuesday, after suffering from cardiac arrest. Her demise was immediately followed by her mother, who succumbed to death after a reported stroke, a day after. A joint funeral service for the mother-daughter is being arranged with no concrete details yet.
